It's late, or they're busy, and the craving isn't waiting. Here's what to do in this moment.
Right now
This is one of the most exposed feelings in recovery: you did the right thing, you reached for the phone — and no one picked up. The urge doesn't care that it's 3am or that your sponsor is on a flight. Take a breath. This moment is survivable, and you have more options than it feels like right now:
Your sponsor isn't your only lifeline. A second sober contact, your home group's phone list, or the AA helpline can all pick up the slack. Call the next name down.
Cravings peak and pass, usually inside 20–30 minutes. Change your physical situation — step outside, get water, move. You're waiting it out, not wrestling it.
Half the power of a craving is that it's happening silently in your head. Naming it to another presence — anyone who understands the program — takes the air out of it.
